Sen. Shelby Announces $15 Million Grant for Tuscaloosa Riverwalk
U.S. Senator Richard Shelby announced a $15 million grant to the City of Tuscaloosa to improve the Riverwalk area Thursday.
The money is being provided by the US Department of Transportation through its Better Utilizing Investment to Leverage Development, or BUILD, grant program.
“I am proud to announce that Alabama has been awarded two BUILD grants, one to improve infrastructure investments in Tuscaloosa and a planning grant to assist the Wiregrass region,” Shelby said. "Both BUILD grants will provide important federal resources that will improve infrastructure and promote increased economic development opportunities in Alabama."
According to a press release, the grant will go toward constructing a bicycle and pedestrian path, completing a pedestrian bridge and improving the Black Warrior River barge mooring. The pedestrian bridge will cross over Jack Warner Parkway and will include lighting and security measures.
