The National Weather Service in Birmingham has issued a Special Weather Statement for portions of Hale and Marengo Counties.

The text of the statement is below:

...SIGNIFICANT WEATHER ADVISORY FOR NORTH CENTRAL MARENGO AND
SOUTHERN HALE COUNTIES UNTIL 145 PM CDT...

At 1242 PM CDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm near
Demopolis, moving northeast at 20 mph.

Pea size hail and winds in excess of 40 mph will be possible with
this storm.

Locations impacted include...
Demopolis, Greensboro, Newbern, Duffys Bend, Sawyerville, Arcola,
Greensboro Municipal Airport, Old Spring Hill, Gallion, Cedarville
and Laneville.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm, and may lead
to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded
roadways.

Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm.
Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe
shelter inside a building or vehicle.
