I don’t drink much (anymore). If I do, it’s either a sweet wine or a margarita. I typically will just sip on it. Now, my last virtual birthday party will determine all of what you just read is a complete lie.

Most wine connoisseurs turn their nose up at me. I like sweet wines. To them, that’s not ‘real’ wine, whatever that means. One time, I was roped into a ‘girls night in’ that was actually a whole sales pitch to join a wine of the month club. When I asked which one was the ‘sweet’ wine, she started to give me a lecture about sweet wines. You already know I told her to pause.

Today is National Drink Wine Day. I can totally support that. The National Drink Wine Day page noted that “the purpose of National Drink Wine Day is to spread the love and health benefits of wine.  Wine has played an important role in history, religion, and relationships.  We embrace the positive benefits of wine such as new friends, reduced risk of heart disease, and the enhancement of food and life.”

My favorite Alabama Wines

Chilled Semi-Sweet Peach Wine from the Ozan Vineyard and Winery makes the world a better place. Ozan notes that “Alabama's world-famous Chilton County Peaches are captured at full ripeness and handcrafted into a delightful Southern wine.” You should also try the Magenta Prickly Pear. You can check out Ozan Vineyard and Winery in Calera, Alabama.

A glass of chilled “Support Our Troops” from Corbin Farms Winery in Calera, Alabama, makes my day. It’s a semi-sweet red wine with black raspberry notes and “$1 for every bottle sold to veteran and active duty support organizations.” At Corbin Farms, their “focus is on producing vinifera wines including Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir, and others.”

My favorite non-Alabama wines, there are only two.

Moselland Cat Riesling from Germany and the neat thing is that the bottle is shaped like a cat. It's "fresh and fruity" and you can find this at World Market.

Robertson Winery Sweet Red from South Africa and the best part is that it’s under ten bucks. Cost is another reason why wine folks turn their nose up at me. You can find it at Total Wine and More (In Atlanta), which notes that “this wine is fruity and soft with smooth sweet cherry and ripe berry flavors.”
