Today Will Be Sunny And Cold

Weather Update for Wednesday, November 13th

The high for today will range between 49 and 51 for some areas, with sunny skies and calm winds.  Tonight, there will be increasing clouds with a low around 34.  Currently, we are still under a Freeze Warning until today at 10 am.  The cloud coverage will increase for Thursday, which brings the possibility of rain in the afternoon and evening.  Thursday’s high will be around 48, and the low will be approximately 39.

This week is winter weather awareness week with the National Weather Service.  Today, I would like to feature some safety and preparedness tips for our area.  The recommendation from the National Weather Service when driving in winter-like conditions is “if the outside temperature is near freezing, drive like you’re on ice.  You may be!”  I also suggest having a travel safety kit because, during winter weather, you never know when you may need it.  The NWS advises to have these items for your car’s safety kit, “blankets, flashlight, batteries, first aid kit, water, non-perishable food items, pocket knife, jumper cables, extra clothing, ice scrapper, road maps, small shovel, rope, sand/kitty litter, cellphone charger, and full tank of gas.”  Personally, when I travel I typically keep a blanket, flashlight, water, cellphone charger, snacks, and always keep a full tank.  This helped me out during the ice-storm of January 2014 in Central Alabama.
