TPD Deploys Tear Gas in West Side Raid, Arrest Teen With AR-15
The Tuscaloosa Police Department and members of its Special Response Team raided a home in the city's West Side Monday afternoon where they deployed year gas and arrested a teenager with an assault rifle.
Stephanie Taylor, a TPD spokesperson, said officers were notified of drug and weapons activity at 1008 37th Avenue around 5 p.m. Monday.
Three suspects scattered when officers arrived, and one dropped an AR-15 on the front porch, according to the spokesperson.
Police arrested one of the three, but two others fled. Taylor said officers could see narcotics and more firearms in a front room of the house and called the SRT to take further action. Officers fired multiple tear gas rounds into the home and raided it after two hours, but the other two suspects escaped, Taylor said.
Police believe the two who escaped are in their teens or early twenties. The apprehended suspect was 16 years old.
