As it gets closer and closer to back-to-school time, more and more events are being hosted to help support families in West Alabama. Not only do parents need to concern themselves with the normal back-to-school supplies and clothes, but add pandemic supplies to the list too.

The Cost of Back to School

Simply put, it’s not cheap. According to the National Retail Federation, they predict that “families with children in elementary through high school plan to spend an average of $848.90 on school items, which is $59 more than last year.”

District 5 Community ‘Unity’ Day

When you combine food, fun, and school supplies, that sounds like a great time. District 5 is hosting a Community ‘Unity’ Day on Monday, August 9, 2021. The free event will be hosted by the Tuscaloosa City Board of Education Representative Erica Grant and Tuscaloosa City Council President Kip Tyner.

District 5 Community ‘Unity’ Day will be held at the Alberta Park Fountain from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m.  There will be a supply pick-up for those that would like to add to their Back to School supplies.  Also, there will be donations accepted on-site to help Alberta and Arcadia Elementary Schools. These schools need masks, disinfectant sprays, and hand sanitizers.

Fun and food will be at the Community ‘Unity’ Day. Free appetizers from Catch A Taste, Joyful Java, and Tuscaloosa’s Domino’s. There will be tons of fun, along with DJ Frank Sinatra with the Back to School playlist.
