Next school year, students across Tuscaloosa will have the opportunity to gain hands-on business experience as Tuscaloosa City Schools introduces a new entrepreneurship program designed to prepare them for the real world of business.

Designed for driven juniors and seniors with an interest in business and leadership, the “CEO+ program — Creating Entrepreneurial Opportunities” is a yearlong course that moves learning beyond the traditional classroom. Students will meet daily inside local businesses, where they will see firsthand how companies operate, engage with community leaders, and gain practical, hands-on experience.

The “CEO+ program is an accredited course offered through the Midland Institute for Entrepreneurship and implemented in communities across the country,” said the press release. “The initiative was made possible through partnerships with area businesses and with the support of the Tuscaloosa Education Foundation and Innovate Alabama.”

In addition, students in the program will explore area businesses, cultivate professional networks, launch a class-run enterprise, and develop their own ventures from initial concept to final presentation. Along the way, participants receive one-on-one mentorship from local business leaders while strengthening their professionalism and essential life skills.

“CEO+ reflects the kind of real-world learning experiences we want for our students and aligns directly with our vision of preparing every student for life and career success,” Superintendent Mike Daria said. “Students will develop confidence, leadership skills, and practical experience that will serve them well after graduation.”
