Tuscaloosa Seniors Face Off in Live Spelling Competition
In a celebration of academic excellence, Child Abuse Prevention Services, in partnership with The City of Tuscaloosa, community leaders, and local organizations, proudly introduces the “City-Wide Word Challenge.”

The “City-Wide Word Challenge” is a live and high-energy spelling competition that will bring together top-performing 12th-grade students from Central High School, Bryant High School, and Northridge High School.
This free community event will be held on Saturday, April 18, at 11 a.m. at the Central High School Auditorium, 905 15th St, Tuscaloosa, AL 35401.
Created to honor academic excellence among high school seniors, this competition highlights the importance of literacy, education, and student achievement while encouraging friendly competition and a strong sense of community pride.
“This event is about more than just spelling words — it’s about recognizing the brilliance of our students and investing in the future of Tuscaloosa,” said Terry W. Banks, Board President of Child Abuse Prevention Services and event organizer. “We want to create an experience that celebrates academic success the same way we celebrate athletics.”
