University of Alabama Alumna Will Star In ‘Star Trek’ TV Show

University of Alabama alumna, Sonequa Martin-Green, will star in CBS's newest show, 'Star Trek'. She's no stranger to acting, she was a part of many theater productions on UA's campus and around the area.

You may notice her from being a cast member on the hit show, " The Walking Dead", as Sasha Williams.

CBS Network chose Martin-Green after a 'meticulous' search for finding the ideal actress. She will play the lieutenant commander of The Discovery.

She will be the first African-American to lead in the franchise's history.

But have no fear, she will still be a part of  " The Walking Dead" cast.

I remember watching the show when I was younger with my grandparents, I'm excited to see the updated version.

The show will premiere on CBS in May 2017.
