West Alabama Heat Advisory: Guide to When It Will Feel Above 99°F

Hot and humid weather will continue today, with the Heat Advisory in effect until 9 p.m. Tuesday, July 21. The National Weather Service in Birmingham reminds residents that “hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses.”

Bibb: Heat index values as high as 106.

Fayette: Heat index values as high as 105.

Greene: Heat index values as high as 106.

Hale: Heat index values as high as 106.

Lamar: Heat index values as high as 109.

Pickens: Heat index values as high as 106.

Sumter: Heat index values as high as 106.

Tuscaloosa: Heat index values as high as 105.

Walker: Heat index values as high as 106.

When It Will Feel 99°F and Above in West Alabama

Here are the timeframes for West Alabama counties when the ‘feels-like’ temperatures will be at or above 99°F according to Time & Date Weather.

Bibb: Noon to 7 p.m.

Fayette: Noon to 7 p.m.

Greene: 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Hale: Noon to 6 p.m.

Lamar: 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Perry: Noon to 6 p.m.

Pickens: Noon to 7 p.m.

Sumter: Noon to 7 p.m.

Tuscaloosa: Noon to 8 p.m.

Walker: 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Precautionary & Preparedness Actions from the NWS

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances.

Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing when possible, and drink plenty of water.

To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 911.
