Low to Mid-90s Offer Relief from West Alabama Triple-Digit Heat

A short break from the heat is on the way this week, although how much relief you get may depend on who you ask. Temperatures are expected to stay in the low to mid-90s instead of climbing into the triple digits like last week in West Alabama, and that, to me, counts as good news. However, it is still summer in the South, so the heat isn’t going anywhere just yet.

The break from the heat might be short-lived. An early look at the weekend forecast points to hotter temperatures.

Rain Outlook + Storm Risk

Today, Monday, August 24, the Storm Prediction Center has portions of Alabama under a Marginal Risk for damaging winds with gusts up to 60 mph. The only West Alabama community that is under the marginal risk is the far southern portion of Sumter County.

“The weather won't change much tomorrow with the highest risk of a shower or storm over the southern half of the state,” said James Spann, Alabama Weather Network Chief Meteorologist. “Moisture moves northward Wednesday, and scattered showers/thunderstorms are likely statewide over the latter half of the week. Most of them will come from noon to midnight.”
