It has certainly been a wet week across Alabama. Now, Arthur's remnants have moved eastward, and there is still the potential for additional rainfall. Plus, there is a risk for strong to severe storms today.

Severe Risk Overview

The Storm Prediction Center has a good portion of Alabama under a “Marginal” risk for severe weather for Friday, June 19, during the morning into the afternoon timeframe.

The main threat during this window is for “damaging winds with gusts up to 60 mph,” said the National Weather Service in Birmingham.

“Heavier storms could produce strong, gusty winds. Tornadoes are not expected,” said James Spann, Alabama Weather Network Chief Meteorologist.

The Townsquare Media Coverage Area is under the marginal risk, which includes Bibb, Fayette (southern portion), Greene, Hale, Lamar (southern portion), Perry, Pickens, Sumter, Tuscaloosa, and Walker (southern portion) counties.

Concerns for Flooding

There are still concerns about flooding across the state, with an additional 1 to 3 inches of rainfall expected today and 1 to 2 inches for Saturday. Also, there is the possibility of locally higher amounts in the southern portion of Central Alabama.

Flood Watch

There is a Flood Watch until 7 p.m., Friday, June 19, for the following West Alabama counties: Bibb, Greene, Hale, Lamar, and Sumter.

Flood Warning

In addition, there is a Flood Warning for the Sucarnoochee River at Livingston affecting Sumter County through Saturday, June 20, at 10 a.m. The National Weather Service in Birmingham said that at “18.0 feet, flooding of farm lands around Livingston occurs.”
