Have you ever wondered why Dr. Martin Luther King’s day is not on his birthday?  Efforts begin to make his birthday a holiday after he was assassinated in 1968.

It wasn’t until 1983 that the measure was passed and it wasn’t ratified in all states until 2000.

The third Monday of January was selected by lawmakers as MLK Day making it a floating holiday.  Find why here.
