Police in Tuscaloosa County have launched an investigation after a woman was found dead in the parking lot of a fast food restaurant in Northport Friday evening.

Carpenter said officers found a 67-year-old woman dead in a Toyota Camry parked outside the quick service restaurant.

He said the woman's cause of death was not immediately clear, and the investigation was turned over to the multi-agency Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit.

The VCU, which is comprised of investigators from the Tuscaloosa. Northport and University of Alabama Police Departments as well as the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office, investigates almost all deaths outside of a hospital setting that take place anywhere in Tuscaloosa County.

Their involvement does not necessarily indicate suspicion or evidence of foul play.

Carpenter did not share the victim's identity Saturday morning.
