Inmate Uses Hospital Visit to Escape

When incarcerated, people will do all kinds of things to be free, including swallowing foreign objects.

CBS reports that authorities in Daviess County, Indiana are searching for 23-year-old Shane Michael Alan Cates, who escaped Monday night from the Daviess Community Hospital, where he was being treated after swallowing two pens. Doctors decided to let the pens flow through his system rather than have them surgically removed. Police K-9s were able to track Cates' scent for numerous blocks, but the trail suddenly stopped, leading investigators to believe he might have been picked up.

Cates was serving time on a probation violation, stemming from a 2013 drug conviction. He is said to have assaulted his wife in their home in addition to hitting another female relative several times as a 12-year-old child witnessed.

He is still on the run but if those pens come down the wrong way, it won't be long before he's in the hospital and not in a position to run anywhere!
