A 22-year-old Tuscaloosa man has been charged with firing a gun into the back door of Central Church of Christ of Hargrove Road Sunday afternoon.

Police responded to the area after congregants reported that a man drove behind the building in a maroon sedan and fired one shot into the back entrances of the church.

No one was hurt in the incident, but some members were inside the building having a Bible study class. The bullet shattered a glass door and struck some furniture inside the church.

Captain Jack Kennedy, the assistant commander of the multi-agency Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit, said officers believe Deandre Lashawn Luckey, 22, is the man who was captured on surveillance video leaving the scene of the shooting.

Luckey was arrested Thursday night and charged with discharging a firearm into an occupied building.

Kennedy said the motive of the shooting is still under investigation, but said police do not believe any other churches are in danger of being targeted for violence.

Luckey will be taken to the Tuscaloosa County Jail, where he will be held on a $30,000 bond.
