
Special Weather Alert for Alabama: Below Freezing & Black Ice Risk
The National Weather Service in Birmingham has issued a Special Weather Statement about the frigid temperatures across the region.
To put the temperature plunge in perspective, the temperature at the Townsquare Media studios was 60 degrees at 7 a.m. By 7 p.m., it had fallen to 30 degrees.
“Temperatures will fall below freezing tonight across all of Central Alabama, with residual moisture on local roadways,” said the National Weather Service in Birmingham. This includes West Alabama as well.
- This will lead to the possibility of hazardous travel in some areas.
- Black ice may create slick spots on some local roads, bridges, and overpasses.
- Please use extra caution if you have to travel.

Monday, January 26, starting at Midnight through 10 a.m.
For the first Cold Weather Advisory, very cold wind chills as low as 2 degrees above expected.
Cold Weather Advisory #2
Monday, January 26, starting at 9 p.m. through Tuesday, January 27 at 9 a.m.
For the second Cold Weather Advisory, very cold temperatures as low as 7 degrees above expected.

Possible Impacts
- Frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected skin is exposed to these temperatures.
- An extended period of subfreezing temperatures could cause pipes to burst.
