Alabama freshman defensive back Malachi Moore has been honored by the SEC as the Freshman of the Week for his performance in the Crimson Tide's 41-0 victory over the Mississippi State Bulldogs. This is the second time this season that the safety from Hewitt-Trussville High School has been honored this season as SEC Freshman of the Week.

Moore racked up eight tackles, including one for a loss and two pass breakups. He led the Crimson Tide defense in tackles.

The Crimson Tide held Mike Leach's "Air Raid" offense to 163 passing yards and forced two turnovers to pitch the first Alabama shutout since 2018.

Through six games this year, Moore has accumulated 28 tackles, with three for a loss. He has forced three turnovers so far, two interceptions and one fumble recovery, Moore took his fumble recovery against Tennessee to the endzone for an Alabama defensive touchdown.

He first won this award in the second week for his performance against he Texas A&M Aggies.

Moore was considered a 4-star prospect and the ninth best player in the state in the class of 2020 by the 247Sports Composite.

Moore has stepped into a defensive backfield that lost several players to the NFL and has been able to start for Alabama as a true freshman. He has been praised for his versatility and maturity by teammates and coaches.
