Operation Storm Watch is in full progress. Please stay aware and stay safe today (Thursday, March 25, 2021). I want to stress that weather information changes due to various circumstances. Please be sure you check back often for new information and guidance.

TIMING

The current time frame to be on alert for our coverage areas is between 11 am and 11 pm.

There is the possibility of a dangerous severe weather situation. In a briefing provided by the National Weather Service in Birmingham, they noted that in the “early morning there is the potential for a band of rain and storms that would be moving northward. Then in the afternoon, the intense storms will develop.”

BE PREPARED

Be the Hero. Tell family and friends about the weather event.

Have multiple ways to receive warnings. Don’t silence your phone.

Please be sure you know where you are located on the state map (know your county).

Determine your safe place at work and home. Tornado shelter, basement, and a great suggestion is an interior room, the lowest floor, of a sturdy building. Put as many walls between you and the outside as possible.

Locate a shelter near you.

You are not safe in a mobile home. Period.

RISK ZONES AND THREATS

Regardless of the variety of risk zones across Central Alabama, it would help if you stay aware of conditions. James Spann, ABC 33/40, and Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa Chief Meteorologist noted on Facebook that the “SPC has a "high risk" (level 5/5) up for Northwest Alabama, with a "moderate risk" (level 4/5) down to Sand Rock, Glencoe, Calera, Marion, and Linden. The "enhanced risk" (level 3/5) extends as far south as Alexander City, Prattville, and Grove Hill.”
