Luisa Blanco was named the SEC Gymnast of the Week, the conference announced earlier Tuesday.

Blanco, an all-around event gymnast, posted a career-best combined 39.825 score in her events. That total ranks third all-time in Alabama gymnastics history. Her performance was a key factor in the Crimson Tide’s 197.725-197.325 victory of the LSU Tigers last Friday.

The sophomore from Dallas posted identical 9.975 scores on the floor and balance beam, a 9.950 score on the bars, and a 9.925 score on the vault. Blanco seems to be improving week by week, as this is the second week in a row she has bested her career scores in all her events.

This is Blanco’s first SEC Gymnast of the Week Honor of her career, and the fourth conference award the team has won this season. In addition to this honor, Blanco was a 2020 Scholastic All-American and a 2020 SEC All-Freshman Selection in her first year.

The 5-1 Crimson Tide travel to Fayetteville this Friday to face the Arkansas Razorbacks at 7:00 p.m. CT. The meet will be broadcasted on ESPNU.
