2026 Black History Maker of Alabama - Dr. Lucretia Prince

Dr. Lucretia Prince, a native of West Alabama, is being honored as a Black History Maker of West Alabama for the powerful impact she has had on education and her community. She is the Co-Founder of I Dream Big Charter School, the first HBCU/Charter School Partnership in Alabama, and serves as the Head of School. Through her leadership, she helps students believe in themselves and reach their full potential.

Prince loves working with students and believes that when adults invest in young people, they help shape the future. One of the biggest influences in her life was her teacher, Mrs. Bobbie Blossom, who saw potential in her when she did not see it in herself. That encouragement changed her life and inspired her to do the same for others.

When asked what Black History means to her, she responded, “Legacy. It represents resilience, brilliance, and progress. I understand that I stand on the shoulders of those who came before me, and because of that, I have a responsibility to lead with excellence and open doors for the next generation.”

That belief is something she lives out through the vision and creation of I Dream Big Charter School. It is evidence of her commitment to honoring Black history through action. By helping to found the school, she created a space where students are reminded daily that their dreams matter and that there is no limit to their potential. I Dream Big Charter School reflects the very legacy she speaks of and, through its mission, culture, and focus on excellence, serves as a living example of what it means to stand on the shoulders of those who came before and intentionally build pathways for the next generation to rise even higher.

Her advice to young people in West Alabama is not to let their zip code define their destiny. She believes that where someone starts does not determine where they can go and encourages students to work hard, stay focused, seek mentors, and never shrink their dreams to fit someone else’s expectations.

Dr. Lucretia Prince is building a legacy of faith, strength, and impact. As a Black History Maker of West Alabama, she continues to inspire students to DREAM BIG and achieve even BIGGER.
