A donation of over 2.4 million face masks is being shipped to Alabama from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. In a tweet posted on Wednesday, Gov. Kay Ivey said the masks will be donated to schools and colleges statewide.

Last week, Ivey amended the Safer at Home order to be extended until Oct. 2, which includes a statewide mask mandate. Residents will be required to wear masks when they are out in public or if they are less than six feet away from others.

"We appreciate the HHS team and [President Donald Trump's] administration for coordinating this delivery & supporting our students’ safety," Ivey wrote in her tweet.

Stay tuned to this site to see when and how masks will be administered to Alabama's students.
