
Alabama Braces for Threats of Tornadoes, Large Hail, Damaging Winds
Some sort of severe weather has been impacting various states over the past six days. The Weather Channel said, “Another round of severe thunderstorms is expected Tuesday afternoon and evening from parts of the Southern Plains and lower Mississippi Valley, from eastern Oklahoma and north Texas into Tennessee, Mississippi, and Alabama.”
The Townsquare Media Weather Center has been closely monitoring conditions as a fast-moving line of storms is expected to push into West Alabama later today.
TIP: Since some of this activity takes place in the late evening and overnight hours, please be sure not to silence your phones when going to bed to ensure you can receive any weather information.
Risk Level and Areas
The Storm Prediction Center has nearly all of Alabama under a “Slight Risk,” a Level 2 out of 5 risk level for strong to severe storms.
This includes all counties in the Townsquare Media Coverage Area: Bibb, Fayette, Greene, Hale, Lamar, Perry, Pickens, Sumter, Tuscaloosa, and Walker.

Timeline
The National Weather Service in Birmingham said the activity will be between Tuesday, starting around 5 p.m., and Wednesday, around 4 a.m.
Possible Threats
- Isolated – Brief Tornadoes
- Damaging Winds with Gusts up to 60 mph
- Large Hail up to a Quarter Size
“A brief, isolated tornado or two can't be ruled out over the western third of the state, but wind is the main concern,” said James Spann, Alabama Weather Network Chief Meteorologist. “Storms should weaken after midnight as they move quickly into East and South Alabama.”
Tornado Outlook
The probability of a tornado in portions of West Alabama is between 2 and 4%.
Severe Wind Outlook
The probability of severe wind in West Alabama is between 30 and 40%.
Severe Hail Outlook
The probability of severe hail in West Alabama ranges between 5 to 29%.
Additional Severe Weather Threat
The National Weather Service in Birmingham said that “Showers and storms may re-develop across southern portions of Central Alabama Wednesday evening, with a low risk for damaging winds and large hail.”
