Triple-digit heat index values are expected over the next several days, with a heat dome building ahead of the Fourth of July holiday weekend for much of the central and eastern United States, including the southern region.

As this heat dome develops, The Weather Channel said that ‘At least 230 million people in the U.S. — about two-thirds of the U.S. population — could be exposed to extreme heat that could lead to health issues.”

The National Weather Service in Birmingham said that residents should expect several days of moderate to major heat risk.” Also, reminding Alabamians that the “combination of heat and humidity will cause heat stress for those without adequate cooling and hydration. Practice heat safety if spending time outdoors.”

Yesterday, June 26, around 3 p.m. at the Townsquare Media studios off Skyland Blvd, the ‘feels-like’ temperature was 101 °F.
