While reading an article on 'Our'story Month, I was shocked to find out that over 90% of High School students today don't know that slavery was deciding factor in the 'War of the States'. Why this is so troubling is that without knowing from where you come, you cannot have any idea where you are going. Also the fact that schools now do not have any emphasis on what basically built this country from the ground up....Slavery.

Schools aren't including it in curriculum's, teachers aren't prepared to teach it and textbooks don't include enough material about it. So how can we expect students to know about it?

It seems that there is a 'white-wash' on the institution of slavery and how it shaped this country.

Black 'Our'story Month is to be told everyday of the year so that these 90%+ students can learn about the story of this country.
