Alabama had its first spring scrimmage Friday inside Bryant-Denny Stadium. Bryce Young had a strong showing, tossing four touchdown passes, two of them went to tight end Cameron Latu.

Latu is off to a strong start this spring. Nick Saban praised the redshirt junior last week for his performance to this point. "Latu has done a really good job so far", Saban said. He's really showing some maturity and done a really good job."

Latu came to Alabama as one of the highest rated defensive ends in the 2018 recruiting cycle. An unanimous four-star recruit, 247Sports ranked Latu as the No. 7 weakside defensive end and No. 3 player in the state of Utah. He participated in Nike's "The Opening" and was selected to play in the Polynesian Bowl.

As a freshman, Latu redshirted after appearing in only two games against Louisville and Arkansas State. He finished the season with one tackle.

In 2019, Latu made the transition from outside linebacker to tight end. He would appear in 11 games as a reserve on special teams, registering one tackle.

Last season, he appeared in 12 games and saw an increased role in the offense while continuing to make an impact on special teams.

The Salt Lake City native can create a mismatch problem because of his 6-foot-5 and 250 pound frame. Latu has yet to record a reception in his college career, but can prove to be a valuable piece in Alabama's offense come the fall.

The Crimson Tide will return to the practice field Monday, April 5th.
