Saturday, November 28 is National French Toast Day!!!

And where's the best place to get French toast in Tuscaloosa?  Your kitchen!

Granted, not many of us really think of French toast on a daily basis. When it comes to breakfast, many of us are too busy preparing to go to work or an appointment to even think about French toast.  It’s usually a quick bowl of cereal or breakfast on the go.  The closest most come to French toast is French toast sticks.

As the holiday season is upon us and we’re already spending more time at home, more of us are cooking meals at home in our downtime. So, should a brave heart which isn’t the normal household cook decide to brave the stove, here’s an easy French toast recipe:

Ingredients:

  • Two eggs
  • Two teaspoons of vanilla flavoring
  • One teaspoon of ground cinnamon
  • Half a cup of milk
  • Bread
  • Half a cup of powdered sugar

Directions:

Prepare a frying pan by heating your spread of choice.  A griddle may also be used instead.

Beat the eggs with a fork or a whisk. Add in your vanilla and whip it until it’s evenly spread.  Sprinkle the cinnamon over the mixture and again mix it until the cinnamon is evenly distributed. Slowly stir in the milk.

Completely submerge the bread in the liquid mixture, being careful to make sure both sides are coated.

Place the bread in the skillet or on the griddle until it browns on one side. Then, turn it over and do the same for the other side.

Once both sides are cooked, remove the bread from the heat. Spoon the powdered sugar into a sifter and lightly tap it over the French toast for a wonderfully presented and delicious breakfast.
