The document said two deputies working as detention officers joined several others in an attempt to rehouse two inmates in the disciplinary dorm at the Tuscaloosa County Jail.

As officers were placing the inmates into the cell, 29-year-old Willie Church, Jr., who was already occupying the cell, allegedly threw a container of urine on one of the deputies, which landed on his hand and uniform.

A second deputy entered the cell to remove Church, who then reportedly "spat a large amount of saliva" in the second deputy's face.

Court documents indicate this is Church's second incident involving the assault of detention officers at the jail. In 2019, he was charged with second-degree assault after allegedly hitting a female detention officer in the face.

Church, who has been jailed since July 2021 for violating probation for an even older robbery, was charged with two counts of assault with bodily fluids. He remained in the county jail Wednesday afternoon.
