Crabtree’s Cruise Around the SEC: Week 4 Edition
Week four of the college football season was filled with upsets, close calls, and dominant performances. Alabama rolled through Saturday night with a win against the Southern Miss Golden Eagles, but what how did the rest of the SEC do this weekend? Let's cruise around the conference to see how everyone else did.
Georgia-62 Vanderbilt-0
The Georgia Bulldogs traveled to Nashville to square off against the Vanderbilt Commodores. The Bulldogs score five touchdowns in the first quarter before officials ran the clock in the second half. Clark Lea has a lot of work to do if Vanderbilt wants to compete in the SEC East the rest of the season. Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs will welcome former offensive line coach Sam Pittman and the Arkansas Razorbacks to Samford Stadium in what is expected to be an exciting matchup.
Boston College-41 Missouri-34 (OT)
Eli Drinkwitz and the Missouri Tigers went out of conference to face the Boston College Eagles. The game turned into an offensive showdown as both defenses struggled throughout the game. The Tigers scored a last-second touchdown to send it to overtime but could not survive in extra time. Missouri falls to 2-2 on the season and will look to bounce back against Tennessee.
LSU-28 Mississippi State-25
LSU traveled to Mississippi State for revenge after last year's opening week upset. LSU started hot by capitalizing on the Bulldog's mistakes. QB Max Johnson threw for 280 yards and four touchdowns. Mike Leach and the Bulldogs came storming back in the fourth quarter by scoring 15 points on the last three series to make it a three-point game. After a failed onside kick, the Tigers squeaked by to earn their third win of the season.
Arkansas-20 Texas A&M-10
Arkansas proved this weekend they own the state of Texas and have one of the most savage social media teams in the country. KJ Jefferson threw for over 200 yards and two touchdowns, while Trelon Burks torched the Aggie's defense with 167 receiving yards and one touchdown. Jimbo Fisher and the Texas A&M Aggies will search for an offensive line as Mississippi State and Alabama come to College Station for the next two weeks.
Auburn-34 Georgia State-24
After coming off a road loss to Penn State, the Auburn Tigers welcomed Georgia State to the Plains for homecoming. What seemed to be an easy game turned into a nightmare for the Tigers as the Panthers took a 12 point lead at halftime. Coach Bryan Harsin made the switch from Bo Nix to TJ Finley at quarterback. Finley saved the day by leading the Tigers down the end zone to secure the game with a minute left. Auburn will have to make significant adjustments as they face the LSU Tigers at Baton Rouge, where the Tigers have not won since 1999.
Kentucky-16 South Carolina-10
For fans who hate touchdowns and enjoy field goals, Kentucky at South Carolina was the game to watch. Both teams only scored two touchdowns the whole game. The Wildcats kicked two more field goals to stay undefeated and to keep their dream to Atlanta alive. The Shane Beamer has gotten off to a rough start and does not get any easier as the season progresses.
Florida-38 Tennessee-14
The Florida Gators showed no signs of an Alabama hangover as the Gators took care of the Volunteers on the Swamp. This season, QB Emory Jones had a career-high of 141 rushing yards and his first game without a turnover. The Volunteers played a solid first half, but mistakes troubled the Vols in the second half. The Gators hit the road to face Kentucky while the Vols travel to Missouri.
NEXT WEEK, the SEC has a strong slate of games, including #8 Arkansas at #2 Georgia and #12 Ole Miss at #1 Alabama. Check back for next week's cruise around the conference.
