Dating Gone Virtual: Here's A Great Way To Handle The First One

So in the midst of COVID-19, people have been wondering how to go about dating. It may look different, but dating is still possible in this new age, it's gone virtual.

So here you are, sort of ready for your first virtual date. You may be nervous because this is a new thing. It's already stressful prepping for a normal first date, but now a virtual one hits different. The Normal first date worries include questions like, "What if I snort when I giggle?" What if they don't like the way I walk? Do I ask about their family or will it be too soon? What if I trip while walking up to them? Virtual first date worries are so much different. What if your internet causes your video to be grainy? do you stare at the screen the whole time or look into the camera? What questions do I ask on a virtual first date?

Although I can't quite help with the other concerns, I have a few ideas on questions you could ask on your first virtual first date. My advice is to try and break up the awkwardness early. Don't try to make it feel like you're not both talking to a screen. Embrace it. Asks questions like:

  • Would you ever think you'd go on a virtual date in your life?
  • Have you been quarantining?
  • Have you been tested for COVID-19?
  • Do you know anyone who's tested positive? If so, how did it make you feel?
  • How have you been staying busy during quarantine?
  • Did you have to continue working during quarantine?
  • Where would you like to travel after all this is over?

You can always ask the typical questions for first dates as well but these will help break the ice and not make it feel awkward talking to a screen. It's crazy that we're in the day and age where virtual dates are a thing but what else can we do other than embrace it. Be safe out there and happy virtual dating!
