According to the National Weather Service in Birmingham, “most of Central Alabama will experience daytime heat indices ranging from 105-115 degrees today and lasting through the weekend.”

These Will Be the Hottest Temperatures of 2023

The Weather Channel advises that you “take this dangerous heat seriously. Avoid any prolonged, unnecessary outdoor activity, especially in the hottest part of the day. Check on the elderly and anyone else who may be living without air conditioning.”

Severe Weather Threats, Risk Areas, and Timing

In addition, to the dangerously hot conditions, there is a threat of damaging winds and large hail for North Central Alabama which includes counties in the Townsquare Media coverage.

This threat includes portions of Tuscaloosa and Pickens counties as well as Lamar, Fayette, and Walker counties. Currently, the window of active weather is from 5 p.m. until 10 p.m.

There is an “Excessive Heat Warning” from Thursday, June 29, 11:00 a.m. until Friday, June 30, 9:00 p.m. for Lamar, Pickens, and Sumter.

There is a “Heat Advisory” from Thursday, June 29, 11:00 a.m. until Friday, June 30, 11:00 a.m. for Bibb, Fayette, Greene, Hale, Perry, Tuscaloosa, and Walker.

The National Weather Service in Birmingham has already issued an “Excessive Heat Warning” starting Friday, June 30, 11:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. for the following counties: Autauga, Bibb, Blount, Chilton, Dallas, Fayette, Greene, Hale, Jefferson, Lowndes, Marengo, Perry, Shelby, Tuscaloosa, Walker, and Winston.
