Governor Kay Ivey Releases Video Asking Alabama to “Mask Up”
Alabama Governor Kay Ivey released a short video Friday imploring the state's residents to "mask up" and wear face coverings in public to combat the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus.
In the 35-second clip, Ivey said the state and nation are at war with an invisible enemy and compared the sacrifices made to battle this pandemic to those made by the "Greatest Generation" as they banded together to win World War II.
"By comparison, our sacrifice is small, but each of us can do our part," Ivey said. "Mask up, Alabama!"
Ivey passed a statewide order in mid-July mandating the wearing of face coverings by all people in the state over the age of six in places where six-feet social distancing cannot be maintained.
The order was set to expire on August 1st, but has since been extended to run through the end of this month.
