Here's Where Alabama Public Schools Rank In The U.S.

Since moving to Alabama, I've often compared things to my home state of Florida. Things like food places, daily commute, access to parks and recreational activities, and shopping. As a new parent, I'm forced to think of things much more meaningful like schools.

I'd never thought I'd be living in Alabama. Let alone living in Alabama and raising a whole human! I've always thought my child would have the choices of Florida schools and now that's all changed. I now have to consider which school in Alabama I'll send my child to. Then I wondered, how great are Alabama public schools??

I came across a study on WalletHub that ranked the nation's best and worst school systems for the year 2020. With COVID-19 still very relevant, it will be interesting to see how the states rank. It's no doubt that this pandemic has affected student learning and teaching efficiency with teachers having to make a huge adjustment as well. This WalletHub study looked at performance, funding, safety, class size, and instructor credentials to determine it's rankings. It was found that the state of Alabama had the 8th worst public schools in America.

Mississippi, Lousiana, & Oklahoma ranked just below Alabama, and New Mexico had the worst ranking of all states. My home state of Florida was ranked # 30 in the United States. This gives me a lot to think about when it's time to determine where my son will attend school. In terms of safety, the state of Alabama ranked 17th, which I feel is pretty good! In terms of school quality, Alabama ranked 46th.

The question now becomes, what can we do to make Alabama school better? As a new resident, I'm willing to help in any way I can. I'dl love to know of other parents' experiences with schools here in Alabama. Do you think this ranking reflects your child's experiences? Do you think Alabam should be ranked higher?
