The fall season in Alabama brings our area postcard-worthy displays of deep reds, vibrant golds, and incredible orange colors in our foliage. Also, a lucky treat when we experience nice crisp and cool conditions known as sweater weather.

Another signal for the state is that we enter into a secondary severe weather season.

That’s right, severe weather. Sorry to break the news, but most Alabamians forget about this season of severe thunderstorms, hail, damaging winds, lighting, and tornadoes. In addition, it’s a great reminder for newcomers to the Yellowhammer State.

Secondary Severe Weather Season

This period for fall severe weather season is between November and December. The Alabama Wx Weather Blog said that in recent years, November in Alabama has proven to be more eventful than the spring primary season.

Between 2001 and 2015, November and December accounted for 21% of all recorded tornadoes, 6% of all fatalities caused by tornadoes, and 10% of all injuries resulting from tornadoes, according to The Alabama Wx Weather Blog.
