Court Upholds Tuscaloosa County Man’s Conviction for Possessing Trove of Child Sex Abuse Material
An Alabama appeals court has upheld the conviction of a Buhl man found guilty on more than 100 counts of possessing child sexual abuse material, Attorney General Steve Marshall said Tuesday.
According to a press release from Marshall, the Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals affirmed the conviction of Dennis Dudley Wright, 67, in a decision reached earlier this month.
Wright was convicted in Tuscaloosa County Circuit Court on October 1, 2025, and sought to have his convictions reversed on appeal.
According to the Attorney General's Office, the case began in December 2022 when an image of child sexual abuse material was posted to Pinterest from an IP address that investigators traced to Wright.
Police seized electronic devices from his home, and a forensic investigation recovered more than 100 images depicting children who appeared to range from nine to 14 years old. Wright later admitted to investigators that he possessed numerous such images.
Investigators also reported finding a child-like silicone doll dressed in lingerie and locked in a closet in Wright's bedroom, Marshall's release alleged.
Tuscaloosa County District Attorney Hays Webb prosecuted the case. Wright was sentenced to 10 years in prison on the possession convictions and 18 years on the dissemination conviction.
The Attorney General's Criminal Appeals Division argued for the convictions to be upheld during the appeals process.
Marshall commended Assistant Attorney General Stephen N. Dodd for his work on the case and thanked Webb and his staff for their assistance.
