Investigators do not believe there is any public threat to the Lake Tuscaloosa area after a shooting injured a man and woman there late Friday night.

Captain Jack Kennedy, the commander of the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit, told local media that Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Deputies were dispatched to the 15000 block of Marina Drive off Highway 43 near Lake Tuscaloosa on reports of a shooting at about 11:30 p.m.

Kennedy said one man and one woman were shot, the Violent Crimes Unit took over the investigation, and suspects the gunplay resulted from a fight among a small group of individuals in the area.

"It is believed that this shooting stemmed from an ongoing disagreement between several individuals, and there is no reason to believe that the surrounding area is in any danger," Kennedy said. "The investigation is ongoing, and more info may be released at the conclusion of the investigation.  Anyone who lives in the area is asked to check any cameras or video they may have between the times of 11:00 PM and 12:00 AM for any suspicious vehicles or persons."

Anyone who believes that may have any information concerning this incident is asked to contact the VCU at 205-464-8690.
