A Tuscaloosa woman was killed Monday afternoon in a single-vehicle crash in Hale County, according to Alabama State Troopers.

Ava L. Smith, 43, was pronounced dead at the scene after the 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe she was driving left the roadway and struck an embankment on Alabama 25 near the 48-mile marker.

Senior Trooper Jere K. Jensen, a spokesperson for the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, said the crash occurred at approximately 12:20 p.m. Monday, about five miles south of Greensboro. Smith was not wearing a seat belt at the time, according to Jensen.

Troopers with ALEA's Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.

Greensboro is in Hale County, approximately 45 miles south of Tuscaloosa.
