Jalyn Armour-Davis has patiently waited for this opportunity, but the redshirt junior is ready to make a big impact for this Alabama defense in 2021.

He earned the nickname “Kick-Slide King” from his teammates this offseason because of his textbook technique. Armour-Davis had a strong showing during the A-Day game, recording three pass breakups and two solo tackles.

Starting safety Jordan Battle spoke very highly of Armour-Davis during spring practice. "He's a great corner," Battle said. "He's got great feet and great hips. I see a great future for Jalyn Armour-Davis this season."

"Coach (Nick) Saban hates when you cross your feet for corners when you're in press coverage," Battle said. "He hates when you cross over. I wish I could show you, but it's like when you slide into a guy instead of moving your feet. So we call him the "Kick Slide King" because he does that the greatest. He cuts off receivers on the press."

The Mobile, Alabama native joined the Crimson Tide in the same recruiting class that featured Patrick Surtain II and Josh Jobe. Armour-Davis was a four-star prospect and rated as the No. 2 player in the state of Alabama and No. 11 cornerback nationally according to 247Sports. And like Surtain and Jobe, played in the 2018 U.S. Army All-American Game.

Armour-Davis was set to play in a reserve role as a true freshman before suffering a season-ending knee injury in pregame warmups against Arkansas State. In 2019, he appeared in eight games, recording two tackles and a couple of pass breakups. Last season, Armour-Davis continued to receive playing time on special teams and sparingly in the Alabama secondary.

Armour-Davis will have to fend off a talented group of players for a starting spot in the Alabama secondary. He will be competing with Kool-Aid McKinstry, a five-star recruit and the No. 1 CB in the 2021 recruiting cycle and Khyree Jackson, the top ranked junior college CB for 2021.
