Jim Nagy: “Josh Jobe is The Next Early-Round DB”
During the Nick Saban era, Alabama has had five cornerbacks and eight defensive backs overall drafted in the first round. Jim Nagy, the Executive Director of the Reese's Senior Bowl believes Josh Jobe could be the next one.
Jobe came to Tuscaloosa as a four-star recruit in the 2018 recruiting cycle. 247Sports ranked Jobe as the No. 7 cornerback nationally, 47th-rated player overall and the top ranked player in the state of Connecticut. He was a part of a recruiting class that featured fellow cornerbacks Patrick Surtain II and Jalyn Armour-Davis.
In first season as a starter in 2020, Jobe recorded 55 tackles, 2.5 for loss, two sacks, two forced fumbles and 11 pass breakups. He was named the Thorpe Award's player of the week for his performance against LSU and earned honorable mention All-American honors from Pro Football Focus.
The Connecticut native had a tough assignment all 2020 playing opposite of first-round pick Patrick Surtain II. With quarterbacks shying away from Surtain II, teams often tested Jobe on the other side. He was named one of the defensive players of the week by the Crimsion Tide coaching staff for his play against Missouri, Mississippi State, Auburn and Notre Dame last season. Jobe was also a standout on special teams, earning special teams player of the week recognition from the Alabama coaching staff in games against Auburn, Arkansas and Notre Dame.
Alabama will open up their season on Saturday, September 4th against the Miami Hurricanes in the 2021 Chick-fil-A-Kickoff Game at Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia.
