Kevin Smith Survived a Massive Heart Attack on Sunday
Kevin Smith is recovering from a “massive heart attack” he suffered after performing a standup comedy show on Sunday night. He posted an Instagram on Monday morning with a lengthy, emotional caption, saying that, as he was being treated by hospital staff, “I was filled with a sense of calm.”
His post began, “I was trying to do a killer stand-up special this evening but I might've gone to far.” Smith described how his chest felt heavy, he started sweating, and threw up between shows before he realized what was happening and his friends called an ambulance. Doctors told him he had a complete blockage of his LAD artery — also known as the “Widow-Maker” — and had to insert a stent to clear the blockage.
“I’ve had a great life,” he continued: “loved by parents who raised me to become the individual I am. I’ve had a weird, wonderful career in all sorts of media, amazing friends, the best wife in the world and an incredible daughter who made me a Dad. But as I stared into the infinite, I realized I was relatively content.” He said he’d have been disappointed not to finish projects he was working on, like the long-awaited Jay and Silent Bob Reboot, but that he felt he’d led a full life just the same.
“I’m sure I’ll be facing some lifestyle changes (maybe it’s time to go Vegan),” he wrote. “But the point of this post is to tell you that I faced my greatest fear tonight... and it wasn’t as bad as I’ve always imagined it’d be.”
