Everyone who was in the Tuscaloosa area remembers April 27, 2011.  That day changed the entire face of the city. Today marks five years post-storm, and the city has seen tremendous growth since then.

One of the hardest hit areas was District 5, which includes Alberta City, much of 15th Street, and Veterans Memorial Parkway.  Some of these areas have seen drastic improvement while others lag a bit in development.

We caught up with Tuscaloosa District 5 City Councilman Kip Tyner to discuss the progression since the storm. He talked about the devastation of the area as well as projects in the works like the moving of Tuscaloosa's Amtrak station to the Leland Shopping Center and new restaurants coming to the area in addition to the possibility of hotels and other entertainment.

(Side Note: District lines have changed since that time, and some of what was District 7 is now District 2. An attempt was made to speak with Councilman Taylor, but he is recovering from surgery.)
