At a time where police are under extensive scrutiny, one Alabama officer lost his life in the line of duty Tuesday.

According to the AP, Sgt. Stephen Williams was shot around 9:30 p.m. while responding to a call at a Super 8 motel in Moody, Ala. Source.

So far, the potential suspects’ names have not been released, but there is no indication that this was the result of a protest or unrest related to ill feelings toward law enforcement.

It is unfortunate that we live in a time where there seems to be a complete disregard for anyone’s life.  Whether it be those who have been oppressed for generations and who have developed a lack of respect for law enforcement learning to see the position rather than the person or the officer who has taken on the responsibility to protect and serve developing an irrational fear of what “could” happen to him if he doesn’t act first or the privileged deciding to take action because “nobody has the right to tell them what to do,” as they’re tax payers… As if no one else is.

White people are killing White people, Black people are killing Black people, Black people are killing White people, and White people are killing Black people. People are killing the police, and the police are killing people.

It’s a sad reality that one can see a superficial fault so great in another that the decision is made that the person doesn’t deserve to live.

Condolences to the family and friends of Sgt. Williams.  His death was senseless as most are, but he died fulfilling his life’s purpose to protect and serve.
