Other States are Boring, Alabama Wins Favorite Christmas Treat
It is the season to hum, “Chestnuts roasting on an open fire.” You could be the one that loudly sings, “Santa Claus is coming to town. Maybe, you have watched a dozen classic Christmas movies. One thing for sure, Christmas is NEXT WEEK!
People, this is the last weekend to prepare for Christmas. Don’t wait until the last minute. Another layer of stress, toss in that there is the COVID-19 pandemic going on too.
Let me help you out while you are preparing for your holiday meal and festivities, especially when it comes to desserts. My mother was the queen of the holiday dessert table. I’m talking about 15 different desserts.
Zippia compiled the favorite holiday desserts for the United States. Honestly, I was not prepared to discover that some states consider M&Ms a holiday dessert. I love them, but as a dessert? “20 states dig cakes, while 12 want candy, and 10 know cookies are what’s up.”
Let’s talk cheesecakes, “a staggering 9 states chow down on cheesecake during the winter holidays.” I’m here for it, but cheesecake doesn’t like me at all!
Here are each states favorite holiday treat, according to Zippia:
Andes Peppermint Candies - Wisconsin
Candy Canes – Idaho
Cheesecake – Arkansas, Connecticut, Florida, Michigan, Nevada, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, and Oklahoma.
Chocolate Chip Cookies – Delaware and Vermont
Chocolate Santas – Illinois and New Jersey
Chocolate Truffles – Maine
Chocolate Trifle – Massachusetts and Rhode Island
Cinnamon Roll – Kansas
Egg Nog – Wyoming
Fruitcake – North and South Carolina
Fudge – West Virginia
Gingerbread Cake – Colorado and Maryland
Gingerbread Cheesecake – Pennsylvania
Gingerbread Man – New Hampshire and Virginia
Hot Chocolate – Arizona
Jolly Rancher – Utah
Alaska – M&Ms
Oreo Balls – Iowa
Oreo Cheesecake – Hawaii
Peanut Butter Blossoms – North Dakota
Peppermint Bark – Oregon
Peppermint Chocolate Chip Cookies – California and Texas
Pudding – Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, and Tennessee
Red Velvet Cake – Alabama and Mississippi
Red Velvet Pound Cake – Georgia
Skittles – Washington
Sugar Cookie – South Dakota
Vegan Christmas Cookies – Missouri
York Peppermint Pattie – Nebraska
Yule Log Cake – Montana
I’m just going to say I’m glad I live in Alabama. Red Velvet Cake seems like it is the perfect holiday dessert. Our neighboring states also agree. Mississippi’s leading dessert is Red Velvet Cake, while Georgia’s favorite is Red Velvet Pound Cake.
BTW, this Pioneer Woman Red Velvet Sheet Cake is AMAZING!
How did Zippia figure this all out? They used “Google Trends, we determined what Christmas treat each state eats a disproportionate amount of. We examined over 40 Christmas classics- including candy stocking stuffers, peppermint yumminess, and all the cakes. From there, we determined what treat is searched a disproportionately, high amount.”
