Riverchase Galleria to Reopen Today
The Riverchase Galleria will once again open its doors to shoppers today.
The mall, one of the largest in the state, had previously been forced to close as a result of Alabama Governor Kay Ivey's Stay-at-Home Order. The Galleria is set to reopen at 11 a.m. today (Tuesday, May 5th) and will then be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. on Sundays.
The mall will be implementing several new safety measures to prevent the spread of the novel Coronavirus. There will be hand sanitizing stations set up throughout the mall as well as increased touch-free entrances to both the mall and its restrooms. Mall management also says there will be "frequent and intense" cleanings to sanitize surfaces and that social distancing will be enforced among shoppers. Shoppers can visit the security desk to obtain a face covering if they chose to do so.
In-person dining is still prohibited as part of Governor Ivey's new "Safer-at-Home" order, and as a result, the food court of the Galleria will remain closed; however, food court tenants have the option to offer to-go orders.
The Galleria has suspended several services until further notice as a means of preventing the spread of the novel Coronavirus. Shoppers will not have access to valet services, stoller rentals, or play areas, and the Galleria's famous carousel will also be closed. Do you think opening the Galleria is the right move? It's great to see the retailers are taking such preventative measures to slow the spread of COVID-19, but will shoppers actually follow social distancing guidelines?
