Shortage Of Hand Sanitizer? Make It Yourself!

Regardless of the flu and coronavirus, I live by disinfectant wipes, disinfectant spray, and hand sanitizer on a normal day.  Everyone calls me “Ms. Wipe Me Down.”  I noticed that as the number of Coronavirus cases increase, the shelves of disinfectant items are bare.  Because I am a DIY (Do It Yourself) type of gal, I investigated how to make your own hand sanitizer.  The common theme in my research is that when considering making your own hand sanitizer, there is something that you need to remember concerns the active ingredient of alcohol.  CBS News contributor Dr. David Agus told CBS MoneyWatch, “Do-it-yourself sanitizers must contain at least 60% alcohol, by volume, to work.”  Also, the US Centers of Disease Control and Prevention, noted that “Alcohol-based hand sanitizers can quickly reduce the number of microbes on hands in some situations, but sanitizers do not eliminate all types of germs.”  CNN, reported that “If made correctly, DIY solution could be helpful and even effective. But if made incorrectly, it can be downright harmful.” I found this to be the easiest DIY hand sanitizer recipe to follow from The Spruce.  Click here for the instructions for “How to Make Homemade Hand Sanitizer.”
