SMP Suspends Production for Two Weeks, Employees to Use PTO or File for Unemployment
A major Tuscaloosa manufacturer has announced plans to temporarily halt production as a response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
SMP, located in Cottondale, announced that it is suspending production beginning Monday, March 23rd and will continue that shutdown through April 6th, mirroring the decision made by MBUSI yesterday.
In a memo to employees obtained by Townsquare Media, SMP tells its employees that they will need to use PTO during the shutdown to continue to receive pay. If PTO is insufficient, employees will need to file for unemployment.
