All this week, anyone who uses social media was made aware of the case of Ahmad Arbery, the 25-year-old Black man who became a suspect by jogging for exercise. He was killed by citizens who took the law into their own hands.
Check out what Steve Harvey had to say about this case:

The fact that this case went so long without any type of justice is what is most alarming, but there is also concern over the fact that it could happen to anyone whose appearance causes one to see him as a possible criminal.

These are the sentiments expressed by many Black men who follow the law and live clean lives.  Some regularly exercise and are finding alternatives to the gyms closed due to COVID-19 restrictions. ALL feel the pain of being faced with the realization that a life was taken senselessly and without consequence until the video of the incident made it to social media.

The sad reality is that the fear and frustration is very much warranted.  When a simple jog can turn into one fearing for his life, there is a problem! Until the problem is addressed, it will continue to persist.

Our fathers, brothers, husbands, sons, and friends shouldn't live in fear of having their actions misunderstood simply because of the color of their skin.  Yet, as long as such incidents continuously occur in America, they will always affect all Black men who easily see themselves in the same shoes, running the same race.
