Thing’s We Think Are In The Bible, But Are Not. Now You Know.
I recently read a short list of things that people often quote as bible scripture. These common Bible references are not actually in the Bible. How many of these have you heard or quoted?
#1. SPARE THE ROD AND SPOIL THE CHILD.
There is a similar verse, Proverbs 13:24. He who spares his rod hates his son, but he who loves him disciplines him promptly.
#2. THE ANIMALS WENT ON THE ARK TWO BY TWO.
There were a small group of animals that went on the Ark two by two, but a very small group. The ones that went on two by two were considered the unclean animals. Noah wasn't a vegetarian. What was he going to eat? The man ate some beef! Genesis 7:23 You shall take with you seven each of every clean animal, a male and his female, two each of animals that are unclean, a male and his female, also seven each of birds of the air, male and female, to keep the species alive on the face of all of the earth.
#3. CLEANLINESS IS NEXT TO GODLINESS
You can’t find this anywhere in the Bible. A short similar verse is John 1:9. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and forgives us of our sins and cleanses us from all unrighteousness.
#4. GOD WORKS IN MYSTERIOUS WAYS
Sorry, not in the Bible.
#5. GOD HELPS THOSE WHO HELP THEMSELVES
Yes, That's in Hezekial 6:7
Right? There is no book of Hezekial. Nope, that quote is not from the Bible. Lord please forgive me!
#6. GOD WILL NOT GIVE YOU MORE THAN YOU CAN HANDLE.
Preachers and teachers have twisted that scripture beyond context. The Bible actually says No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful and He will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it. 1 Corinthians 10:13
God will most definitely put more on you than you can handle so that you'll realize how much you need him.
So much biblical scripture is open to interpretation. Praying for guidance and understanding is probably our best resource as Christians. Or talk it over with your favorite pastor.
