In an email, the City of Tuscaloosa announced that two-term District 4 representative, Mr. Matt Calderone has announced he'd be vacating his seat.

“Mr. Calderone did exceptional work during exceptional times for the City of Tuscaloosa.  It was an honor to work alongside the councilman, and I look forward to publicly honoring Mr. Calderone and the many great things that he accomplished during his time working with the City,” stated Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox.

Mr. Calderone said, “It’s has been a tremendous honor to serve the people of Tuscaloosa. I will forever be grateful for the opportunity to represent our great city. While I am filled with mixed emotions, I am proud of what we have accomplished as a city and know our future is very bright. I look forward to spending more time with my family and continuing to work in other ways to benefit Tuscaloosa.”

Following the procedures set out in 11-44B-8 of the state code, the resolution calling for a special election will be presented for adoption at the July 30 city council meeting, and will set the special election date for Tuesday, October 8.

The reason for Calderone's departure has not been disclosed.
