The University of Alabama issued a press release today indicating that after reviewing over 25,000 students' COVID-19 tests, less than 1% yielded positive.

Students are required to complete a COVID-19 test and confirm they are negative before being permitted to return to campus for the Fall 2020 semester. Classes officially start on Wednesday, Aug. 19.

According to the press release, the university reviewed all tests whose results are current up to Aug. 16. Of the 25,948 tests included in this data, 237 UA students tested positive. The press release stated that tests were completed at "one of the 13 GuideSafe testing sites statewide, through a mail-in test or by a personal physician."

"Those who tested positive were notified and must complete UA’s isolation protocols before returning to the campus community," the press release states.

In an effort to help students complete their testing requirements by the first day of classes, the university is offering free COVID-19 testing at Coleman Coliseum starting today and continuing through Wednesday. Testing will run from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. today, tomorrow and Wednesday.

The university has created a schedule where students can visit Coleman during a time slot that correlates with the last digit of their Campus-Wide Identification Number (CWID). The schedule can be found here.

"The University of Alabama will provide updates on student test results upon the conclusion of re-entry testing, then again every two weeks, at a minimum, once the University transitions to sentinel testing," the press release states.
